Scuba Diving Dos Ojos Cenote
The two Cenotes here are beautiful geological formations above and below the water that can be admired by everyone. Diving the most popular Cenote dive in Tulum. We don’t go deeper than 10m, so the challenge here isn’t about going down it’s about going in.
Dive One Barbie line
A great introduction to cavern diving. Initially, on the dive, we go a few minutes through the tunnel from one Cenote to the other. The tunnel that connects the two Cenotes is very big Allowing light to penetrate from both sides. Columns of rock in the middle seem like they are holding the roof up.
Once in the next Cenote, we skirt around the edge. If we look up to the left we see the open water and probably some people snorkeling, if we look down to the right we see the deeper passages with many beautiful rock formations and fossils.
When we enter the largest chamber at the far side we see the largest formations in the biggest space. The most important cave feature, a barbie doll, marks the halfway point of the dive. We turn and follow the line round a little deeper and darker on the return leg. But 8m maximum and visible light from the exit can always be seen. Completing the dive in 40-45 minutes is normal.
Dive two Bat cave
Slightly more challenging, that’s why we do it second, as it is a little darker. But so many more beautiful features to look at. Everyone prefers this dive. The circuit we follow takes about 40 minutes to complete. It covers three areas.
First, we go back through the tunnel past the big columns then we turn left through the open water area of the second Cenote. Late in the day at the right time of year, we see wonderful light effects in here.
Then we go through into the Bat Cave which is an enclosed cave but with a surface, so snorkelers can often be found paddling around. In here we see many beautiful formations and fossils of shells and coral.
Finally, we enter the green room, very dark, lit only by a faint beam of light that passes through a Lilly pad pond which bathes the room in a slight green light, hence the name. Here are the most beautiful features of the whole dive.
